Safe Children Program Volunteer

Works directly with childcare staff and children, providing emotional and physical support, while also creating a safe environment for children.

Strong Families Program Volunteer

Works with our Family Specialists during Parent-Child Interaction groups. These groups run throughout the year for six to eight weeks, requiring 1-2 hours at a time.

Steps to Become a Volunteer

  • Step One

    Submit a volunteer application.

  • Step Two

Complete required paperwork. After submitting your application, you will receive an email with more information about volunteering and paperwork that needs to be completed before scheduling an orientation. Contact Jill Duden, Volunteer Coordinator, at 217-337-2731 or jduden@crisisnursery.net, with any questions or if you would like to discuss your volunteer interests.

  • Step Three

Attend a Crisis Nursery orientation. At orientation you will meet with Jill to turn in your paperwork, tour the Nursery and learn more about our program, watch a volunteer training video, and complete paperwork to authorize a background check through DCFS (a requirement of all volunteers).

  • Step Four

At orientation, you will receive directions on how to get fingerprinted free-of-charge for the background check. This must be completed before scheduling your first volunteer shift. Once fingerprinted, contact Jill to set up your volunteer shift. Fingerprint receipt must be submitted to Crisis Nursery before volunteering begins.

  • Step Five

Turn in all paperwork within one month of your first volunteer shift (this includes a TB test, physical and references).
