SAFE CHILDREN

What is the Safe Children Program?

Our Safe Children program is available for families who are experiencing a crisis/emergency and no other resources are available to help. The Nursery is child-centered and family-focused. Trained professionals and committed volunteers strive to make every interaction positive while providing nurturing care for children. Services are voluntary, confidential, and offered at no cost to the parent. If needed, basic care items such as diapers, wipes, formula, food, and clothing may be provided to families.
We are the only organization in Champaign County that offers these services free of charge with no income eligibility guidelines!

Staffing at the nursery

While at the Nursery, children are cared for by trained, professional staff, called Lead Children's Specialists.
When you call the Nursery using our 24-hour crisis line, you will speak to a Crisis Advocate.
We also utilize volunteers within our organization. All volunteers undergo a background check, orientation, and training before being on the floor with children.

Crisis Advocates

Crisis Advocates are responsible for assessing calls that come to the 24-hour crisis line, scheduling crisis care, helping parents with crisis counseling, follow-up, resource linkage, and referrals.

Lead Children's Specialists

Children's Specialists work as a team to oversee the crisis care floor. This includes the needs of children and delivering individualized care in a positive, nurturing environment.
