Crisis Nursery is built on the foundation of providing a safe haven for all children and families, especially families of color, who need our “Island of Safety.”
We walk alongside families with no judgement and provide nurturing support to them during times of crisis – regardless of race and ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical and mental abilities, among others. We know that strengthening families and keeping families together makes our community stronger.
The tragic deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others are harsh reminders of the racial inequities and injustices that continue to plague people of color in our country. Unfortunately, many of our Crisis Nursery team members and families live with these inequities daily.
We recognize the important role we play as an organization and are having conversations with our entire team to build solidarity and to continue advancing racial equity for the individuals and community we serve. These steps are part of a larger ongoing conversation and we are dedicated to ensuring progress is made and sustained.
To our Crisis Nursery team, donors, community members and all children and families receiving services:
We are Listening to you.
We Support you.
We continue to Walk Alongside you.
Today, and always – we remain committed to preventing child abuse and neglect by providing 24-hour emergency care for children and support to strengthen families in crisis in Champaign County. It is more important than ever for us to stand together to create a better future for every child, regardless of skin color. We will continue to celebrate the diversity of our community because the children and families in our community deserve better - we can and will do better.
